Saint-Vérand, surroundings

Saint-Vérand, a charming little village in southern Burgundy, owes its name to Saint-Véran, who was bishop of Cavaillon in the 6th century and who took part in the 2nd council of Mâcon in 585.

The “D” at the end is probably only interpretation of 18th century writing.
The appellation, created in 1971, has taken the name back as it was originally spelled.

The village of Saint-Vérand, nestled on a hillside, at the confluence of the Arlois and Préty valleys, take your gaze to five other villages huddled around their bell towers.

Limestone, sandstone or granite buildings : a colour palette ranging from pinkish grey, pink-orange, to golden yellow, with touches of anthracite and cobalt blue.

Walk, climb, sit and contemplate…
